Contactology
· SOFT CONTACT LENSES
With Hydrogel or Silicone hydrogel (SiHy) material, the Soft Lenses are composed of biocompatible polymers which, respecting the ocular physiology , transmit softness, wettability and thin profiles to maximize comfort .
They are differentiated into "single use, weekly, fortnightly, monthly and for extended use" and of different geometry and composition. It is for this reason that even when talking about conventional (non-customised) soft contact lenses, attention and care must be maximum.
· RGP CONTACT LENSES
Rigid Gas-Permeable lenses, characterized by a smaller diameter, represent a valid tool for the correction of various refractive defects, including myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia and presbyopia. These are particularly effective in situations of significant visual defects or in the presence of irregular corneas, as in the case of Keratoconus.
The option to use RGP lenses gives the optometrist the ability to create a customized solution, allowing the choice of the most suitable material and parameters for the specific characteristics of the patient's cornea. Accurate application and careful management by the patient, following the professional's instructions, can guarantee a high level of comfort.
· MULTIFOCAL CONTACT LENSES
As the years go by, especially from the age of 40/45, it becomes increasingly more difficult to obtain clear vision up close. In the vast world of contact lenses, one of the areas of greatest development is undoubtedly represented by multifocal lenses.
The notable variety of geometries and materials available allows us to apply high-performance lenses which, after a detailed visual examination, ensure clear vision at all distances.
· NIGHT LENSES FOR CONTACT ORTHOKERATOLOGY
Orthokeratology (Orthok / OK) represents an innovative technique that exploits the use of special contact lenses to be worn during the night, just before going to bed. Upon awakening, once removed, these lenses allow compensation of the refractive error for the entire day.
These particular RGP contact lenses (rigid gas permeable lenses) are worn before going to sleep and removed the next morning. During sleep, they shape the corneal profile, correcting visual disturbance so that the effect lasts throughout the day. After removal, it is possible to enjoy clear vision even without the use of further visual aids, thanks to the modeling effect that has occurred.
· LENSES FOR KERATOCONUS
Keratoconus, a non-inflammatory and progressive disease, tends to stabilize around age 30. This condition is characterized by a thinning and weakening of the cornea, often mistakenly associated, in the early stages, with myopia and astigmatism.
Our center is dedicated to the design and application of specific contact lenses for keratoconus, having soft, special soft, hybrid and RGP (rigid gas permeable) lenses specifically created for this pathology. Following our protocols, the application will be carefully monitored, ensuring complete accompaniment at every stage. These applications are developed in close collaboration with the ophthalmologist.
